Cheers & Cadences
To help explain some of the cadences, there are beats after the lines to denote how many steps are taken during the line. For instance,
One! Little louder! (L, R L R)
means that marching group say One! when their left foot hits the ground, and drill sergeant/bosun will say the rest of her line in the remaining three steps (right left right) so the beginning of the next line will start with the left foot. Any "+L" or "+R" symbols mean the line is said just after that foot is put down (for the musically inclined, the "and" of the foot's beat).
One, two...three, four! (L R +L R)
The above phrase means that "three" is said just after the left foot is picked up, and "four" falls on placing the right foot down.
