The theme for the '09 Juliette Low Ceremony was around G and everything she's done for the ship in the 15 years it has been going strong. My changing of It Won't Be Like This For Long is a tribute to what she's done for me and my sister.
She came into the bedroom,
And saw her daughter’s tears. It’d been another long day Full of insults, names, and jeers. Her daughter couldn’t understand Why her friends told such lies, She held those little hands And looked deep in her eyes, Said, “It might be like this for long. Somehow you have to find a way To stand up and be strong. Those kids may never grow up And see that they were wrong, So it might be like this for long.” In the early hours of morning, Her daughter didn’t cry, No matter how much she’d miss The house they’d leave behind. Divorce can be so ugly, But for them, the only way To happiness and freedom And a chance for her to say, |
“You might miss this place for long,
But somehow you’re gonna find a way To smile and get along. And know when we’re together, That’s what really feels like home, Though you might miss this place for long.”But right now, inside this circle, Despite how they fight and argue, She remembers all her daughters Over fifteen years. How no matter what life gives them, They pull through time and again And the thing she doesn’t see Is to some so clear: They won’t always agree with her, And she might not like their clothes, But behind the ship, she’s the start And among the ones who know It won’t feel like this for long, That we think just because we leave, It means we’re forever gone. Let memories like these carry your day And keep on keeping on, So it won’t feel like that for long. |
